Maui’s yoga teaching journey began at Warrior 1 in 2015. He has since taught and honed his skills in Portland, Oregon and has recently found his way back to Bakersfield to be closer to family. He and his wife, Abby, have led yoga workshops and retreats domestically and in Costa Rica. Students love Maui’s classes because they are fun, creative, encouraging, and accepting while always gently hinting at some yoga or mindfulness principle. Laughter and playfulness is always encouraged in his class.

““Acknowledge where you are, and progress from there”. – Mark Stephens

I was born and raised in Bakersfield,Ca and I have had the privilege of seeing the West Coast of the United States. When my mother passed away in 2011, my life changed. I moved back to Bakersfield from Northern California, and God directed me to a path of love and kindness that could only heal my heart. Though my first taste of yoga was back in 2004, at Bakersfield College, I did not really encompass a yogi lifestyle till about 6 years ago. That is when I decided to make a healthy lifestyle change and dive fully into the practice of yoga. My practice continuously grows and transforms, not only physically but also emotionally by enriching my spiritual life. Yoga to me is more than a form of exercise. It’s a process. It’s working through difficult poses in yoga which teaches me life lessons that i may practice on a daily basis, with love and compassion, towards myself and others. A friend of mine told me years ago: “Erin, the key to happiness is helping others”. May my story help you. May you find what you need here. And may you be happy, joyous, and free.”

“Deekay was drawn to yoga as an escape from the corporate world, to reduce anxiety, and get back in touch with my spirituality. Moving the body with the breath helped clear my mind. My teaching and my life are a reflection of this path. For me, Yoga = Life. There is no separation. My interest lies in bringing awareness to, and gaining mastery with, the connections between body, mind, emotions and life for more empowered and truthful living
My hope for students upon leaving a class lead by me is that they feel more clear, connected, aligned, and alive.

I am thrilled at the opportunity to share my passion for yoga and fitness with the Warrior 1 family. Having had years of dance and musical theatre training, I’m looking forward to incorporating both aspects in my classes. I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years and have completed the RYT 200 hour teacher training.

Abby’s yoga teaching journey began at CSU Bakersfield in 2011. She traveled to India in 2013, where she received her teaching certification. Upon completing her training, she returned to Bakersfield and taught at several local studios, including Warrior 1! She spent the last several years in Oregon teaching, leading workshops, and leading retreats domestically and to Costa Rica alongside her husband, Maui. They have returned to Bakersfield to be closer to family, and Abby is excited to rejoin the Bakersfield yoga scene. Abby aims to bring fluidity and an element of challenge to her classes. Students can expect to flow through each breath and are welcomed to move with their own intuition.

I was raised here in Bakersfield with a great passion for all forms of athleticism and a competitive drive. My favorites were always the most extreme, kayaking, MMA, skydiving or surfing were always at the top of the list for the rush they gave me. Now, as an instructor I enjoy fitness even more for the ability its given me to help others lead a healthier life. I continue to challenge myself through yoga by gaining new certifications and putting them into practice. I am at my healthiest physically and mentally when im in a hot room sweating it out!

“My husband, Bill, and I have been married 36 years; we have three wonderful grown children, an amazing son-in-law, two amazing daughters-in-law and one absolutely perfect granddaughter, Florence Muriel, otherwise known as Flora. I am a died-in-the-wool dog lover and have three completely naughty fur babies.

My interest in yoga sprang out of my love of cycling. I am an avid recreational cyclist and decided to “”try”” yoga to stay strong on my bicycle. I took my first class a little over two years ago and was immediately hooked. I started taking as many classes as I could, sometimes three a day! When the occasion came up to do teacher training right here in Bakersfield, I jumped at the opportunity to be able to share yoga with others. I love yoga because it can benefit everyone, regardless of age, physical conditioning (or lack thereof!), physical limitations or injuries.

I have been involved in fitness and health for over 20 years. My passion is to help people grow and become better versions of themselves by learning to live a healthy lifestyle. I graduated from CSUB. I am a ACE certified personal trainer, teach cycle, small group training, and boot camp style classes.
